CFCH Coaches

  • Ben Liuzzi

Ben is the reason everything is in English! An Australian who moved to Finland as a ‘love refugee’ in early 2011, Ben is the head coach of CrossFit Central Helsinki. Together with Hanna, they founded CrossFit Central Helsinki in Winter 2011. Ben has a background in Exercise Physiology and has worked in a variety of fields including: exercise rehabilitation, strength and conditioning for athletes and teams and exercise for chronic disease, weight loss and general health. In 2005 Ben discovered CrossFit and was immediately drawn to the concept of defined fitness and general physical preparedness. CrossFit’s ability to build stronger, faster, healthy and happier humans is the reason Ben wanted to spread the word.

Salin austraalialaisvahvistus, Ben, saapui Suomeen “rakkauspakolaisena” alkuvuodesta 2011.

  • Hanna Koskenranta

Introduced to CrossFit in 2009, Hanna immediately rediscovered the competitive fire that had been missing since her gymnastics days. The variety of challenges CrossFit presented, served as a strong motivation to train and develop a healthy lifestyle. Surprised by the addictiveness of the training, and by the ‘scalability’ of the workouts Hanna started to see many others that would benefit from starting CrossFit. The idea quickly developed from telling people about it over dinner, to opening a box with Ben in Helsinki. Despite being a China geek, a coach and a gym owner, Hanna is always on hand to help any of our community.

Janne got his first barbell at the age of four. It was made out of chipboard and plastic tube by his father. It was love at the first sight! After a few years, he got attracted by ice-hockey and Finnish baseball and spent his days with those sports until discovered his way to a real gym. From that day, weight training has been part of his life among all the other sport activities. Willingness to do 'everything that makes you sweat' in addition to weight training lead discovering CrossFit and the first WODs were done somewhere 2012 in the regular gym. Since then, CrossFit type of training played a role in his training program and nowadays CrossFit has won his heart completely.

  • Job Ooms

I have always been really into sports and I played many different sports. I spent most of my time playing basketball and rugby. Right before I started CrossFit I was focusing on Muay Thai and English Boxing for many years but I got into an accident and ended up with a neck injury that prevented me from getting hit in the face. So thats when I decided to check out this Crossfit thing. I joined a CrossFit class in CrossFit Leuven right before Christmas in 2013 and from the first class I fell in love with it.

Since then I competed in many Belgium CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting competitions and had the opportunity to travel to Portugal and The Netherlands for some bigger competitions. As the level of competition is rising, I try to become the best version of myself to keep up with all the amazing atlhetes.

I started coaching in 2015 when I was in my last years of veterinary medicine. When I finished my master in Vetirinary medicine, I had already found my real passion in Coaching and competing in CrossFit. I went all in, I coached and trained since then in CrossFit Leuven and made it my way of life.

  • Jukka-Pekka Pentikäinen

Jukka-Pekka had a rude introduction to CrossFit. ‘I met Cindy for the first time in winter 2010 and the date was horrible – it was outside, it was snowing, and Cindy gave me no mercy whatsoever. I was disappointed with my performance because I thought I had been working out quite versatile all my life and thought I was in better shape than that’. Following that, he started doing more CrossFit workouts on his own, either outside or at public gyms. He was quickly hooked on CrossFit.

When CrossFit Central Helsinki opened in January 2012, he didn’t hesitate to join joining. The gym has became his second home, and his passion and knowledge of CrossFit increased rapidly. ‘I start to miss if I have to stay away for a few days’.

Jukka-Pekka is a physiotherapist by profession, through which comes his interest into coaching. He completed the CrossFit Level One course in March 2013 and since then ‘Tupla’ has been a valuable member of the CFCH coaching team.

”Tapasin Cindyn ensikertaa talvella 2010.

  • Kristian Perkola

I’m Krisu, 30-something-year-old coach, janitor and a Chef. Yeah, dont have any problems to fill my calender. I worked in restaurant business and it did bring me working in Helsinkis ja Stockholms finest and most rewarded restaurant. Also worked in Spain and England for a short periods.
But after 20 years of that, I decide to do something else and start As a personal trainer.
I’ve always loved different kind of sports but gym is been the thing. My grandfather was a really strong timberman and I allways admired his strength, even I know that he never step to the gym. So that's why I love brutal power (Yeah I’m not that technical lifter) like Strongman stuff. I struggle with double unders and gymnastics but I can lift big stones and carry heavy yoke. So I heard this something called CrossFit 2009 when Mikko Salo won the games but I was deep in restaurants that time, even I trained in a gym regularly and also got results. Few of my friend started CrossFit in 2011 and I start do circuit training at gym. Quite fast I noticed that it's hard in a small gym and finally, April 2012 I signed on-ramp. Struggle with work and working out last still almost a year but finally CrossFit wins.

Healthy life is also important to me and as a chef, healthy food doesn't mean boring and tasteless food.
So, I might have a few good recipes for you to share when it comes to strength and food ☺️. • Weightlifting coach level 1, Vierumäki -2013 • Kettlebell coach Level 1, Spartan -2013 • Lots of strength seminars and weekend lectures @ Optimal Training Center, 2013-2017 • Optimal Strength Speed and Power seminar, Heikki Marin -2015-2016 • CrossFit Level 1-trainer, -2018
  • Salla Redlin

Salla was introduced to CrossFit on spring 2010 at Herttoniemi. The workout of the day was ‘Helen’ (running, kettlebell swings and pull-ups), and Salla went through with two green bands and it was challenging both mentally and physically. That experience was inspiring and Salla was determined too start training CrossFit more regularly. After attending the founding classes of CrossFit Central at a park in Töölö during summer 2011 Salla has been a constant fixture with us. After a long and varied period of trying many sports, CrossFit what what she was looking for. CrossFit offers a challenging and variable program, where the body care is also taken care of in all ways.

To Salla, this variability of the program is the best thing about CrossFit; the workouts, equipment and location are all varied and it is possible to train almost everywhere. Every day you can learn something new and find new boundaries to break no matter how old you are or what your fitness level is. Anything is possible if the will to succeed is strong enough.

Salla’s passion and understanding of the utility of CrossFit has lead her to pursure coaching. She feels ‘the most rewarding moment in coaching is when you manage to improve a members technique or well-being. Anyone can achieve dreams with a good coach.’

  • Tiina Taavela

I’m Tiina, a sports and healthy lifestyle enthusiastic at heart, and a digital marketing specialist by profession.
I have a background as a semi-professional football player. After finishing, I trained at a regular gym for couple of years, but that wasn’t enough for me as I missed the competitiveness and training with a team. I was introduced to CrossFit in early 2011 and it was exactly what I had been missing. I started competing quite soon and have been participating in the major Finnish competitions Karjalan Kovin and Winter War multiple times and other competitions like Helsinki Showdown as well.

I completed the CrossFit Level 1 certificate in the spring of 2017. I want to help people get fitter and healthier. Through my several years of training and competing I feel I have something to give. I’m eager to learn more and improve myself as a coach. See you at the gym!
    :)
